About the company:
Ecosmic is on a mission to reduce threat exposure in space by building software for Space Situational Awareness.
We are a high-tech, data-driven space start-up, bringing together an international team of engineers and computer scientists. We move fast, think deeply, and care about building things that matter.
We’re looking for a DevOps Engineer to package in-house algorithms into easy-to-use, reliable, and secure products. You will empower space engineers with software that facilitates the development of both new and existing algorithms.
How we work:
We work in small, cross-functional teams where software and space engineers collaborate closely, and where everyone is empowered to take ownership of their work. We value open collaboration and mutual trust, creating an environment where people can grow continuously and feel genuinely valued.
We are an async-first organization. Most of our communication happens in writing, and we prioritize clarity, documentation, and thoughtful responses over real-time meetings.
We intentionally keep meetings to a minimum. We believe that deep, focused work is essential, and we design our workflows to protect it.
We care deeply about doing excellent work and holding a high bar for quality, while recognising that sustainable performance depends on well-being. We actively protect work–life balance and design our way of working to support it.
We trust people to own their work and make decisions, but that trust comes with a strong expectation of accountability and proactivity: taking initiative, following through, and continuously raising the bar.
A glimpse of our tech stack:
Python for our backend, FastAPI for APIs, and C++ for performance-critical components
DynamoDB and S3 for storage
AWS serverless services (Fargate, Lambda), with infrastructure-as-code via Terraform
GitHub, Jira, Slack, and Confluence for collaboration
At the same time, we’re actively rethinking parts of our stack. We’re exploring a shift from C++ to Rust to improve developer experience and make our core logic more resilient, and we’re moving toward a more cloud-agnostic setup built on Kubernetes.
We provide a MacBook Pro (M5 Pro) as company laptop.
What we’re looking for:
7+ years of experience
Extensive experience in software architecture and senior engineering roles
Experience in shipping products in a start-up environment, enabling rapid iteration while maintaining a reliable and secure platform
Strong judgement in balancing trade-offs between scalability, maintainability, and speed
Proven ability to improve and optimise technical workflows and team practices
Familiarity with cloud-native architectures and infrastructure-as-code
Experience working closely with product and business teams in a B2B context
Excellent communication skills and a passion for mentoring and knowledge sharing
Proficiency in English, with fluency in both spoken and written communication being an absolute must
Experience in on-premise or hybrid deployments of services and their orchestration with Kubernetes
What you’ll work on:
Contributing to long-term initiatives such as, but not limited to:
Unlocking on-premises deployment of space algorithms with Kubernetes
Continuously improving the developer experience of your teammates (software and space)
Collaborating with space engineers and other software engineers to develop algorithms as services
Designing and developing core algorithms and infrastructure from early-stage prototypes to final deployment
Enhancing and extending the observability of our systems
These initiatives are mixed with short-term tasks, such as reviewing PRs and design documents, contributing to code via business-driven implementations and bug fixes, and reducing tech debt.
What we offer:
Flexibility and trust: you’ll always have the freedom to decide where today’s office is. We measure people’s performance based on the objectives they achieve, rather than the hours they spend sitting at their desks
An incredible opportunity for growth. We implement Performance Reviews that are meant to guide your career progression and are tied to Stock Options. We ensure you have the tools to grow by putting aside company time and a specific budget for growth
We really value an equilibrated work-life balance. Whilst we seek motivated and talented people to reach our goals together, we will always prioritise our people’s health and well-being
Competitive pay: the estimated salary range for this position is €50,000 - 60,000 per year. The total compensation for this position will be determined by each individual’s relevant qualifications, work experience, and skills. As you increase your impact at Ecosmic, compensation can grow rapidly. On top of the salary, we also include €1,000/year (net) in flexible benefits, provided via a dedicated benefits card.
All the benefits:
Remote work: you can work from anywhere in Italy, with the option to work from our office in a historic building in the city centre of Turin
Flexible working hours: we have core hours (10 am-12 pm, 2 pm-4 pm), the rest is flexible
Unlimited paid days off: mandatory paid leave (22 days/year) accrues over time as defined by the National Collective Labour Agreement (CCNL). On top of that, you can take unlimited additional days off
